Although commonly called “jasper,” bumblebee jasper is actually a vibrant combination of volcanic matter, including sulfur, hematite, and manganese oxides. Its distinct yellow, orange, and black banding comes from these minerals, not silica-based quartz like traditional jasper. This material forms near active volcanoes—especially in West Java, Indonesia—making it both rare and visually striking.

Due to the natural mineral content (especially sulfur and arsenic), these pieces are sealed and polished, but should not be used in water or placed in the mouth.
